Description
The purpose of this Amendment is to 1) provide Q&A and 2) extend the due date and time for proposal submission. Accordingly, Amendment 0002 to SB1341-05-Q-0569 is issued as follows: 1. Question: Would the end user consider MCV(minimum condensed volume technology)? Answer: A minimum condensed volume (MCV) magnet does not meet the goals of this procurement because of the increased reliability concerns with respect to the leak-tight containment of the liquid helium cryogen. We reviewed the advantages and disadvantages of MCV in developing this solicitation. Over the years we have had a number of problems with vacuum integrity of the liquid helium circuit in our superconducting magnets made by various manufacturers. Repairing the vacuum integrity of these systems has been time-consuming, expensive, and occasionally impractical. Our research environment requires frequent relocation of the equipment and operation in spaces that can result in large magnetic forces, both of which are causes for additional stresses in cryogenic containment vessels. For these reasons this procurement is for a cryogen-free (no static liquid cryogens) superconducting magnet. 2. Proposal submissions must be received by 2:00 p.m. EST on July 22, 2005. All other terms and conditions of the original solicitation remain unchanged. NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO WWW.FEDBIZOPPS.GOV ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (01-JUL-2005); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE. PLEASE CONTACT fbo.support@gsa.gov REGARDING THIS ISSUE.
