- FedBizOpps Announcement for Secondary Waste Treatment Technologies Date: 04 July 2005 Type: Technology Information Request Agency: Chemical Materials Agency, Technical Support Directorate Contact: Mr. Gary Wneck at wneckg@saic-abingdon.com The US Army Chemical Materials Agency (CMA) mission is to safely dispose of chemical warfare materiel at the stockpile and non-stockpile sites. To help with this objective, the Technical Support Directorate (TSD) evaluates technologies for potential integ ration into demilitarization processes. In this regard, TSD is requesting information on technologies suitable for the treatment of chemical warfare agent-contaminated wastes (secondary wastes) produced as a result of chemical demilitarization operations and site closure activities. The wastes are to be decontaminated and made suitable for disposal. Technologies of interest should have the following features at a minimum: Thermally based Commercially available Mobile/modular; can be rapidly dismantled, transported and redeployed Operating unit available for demonstration Requiring no more than 12 months for construction, delivery, set-up and systemization Effective for the following types of wastes: spent granular activated carbon, personnel protective equipment (primarily chlorinated polyethylene, PVC and butyl rubber), dunnage, wood, miscellaneous solids, liquids and metals Capable of treating these wastes at a rate of 200 to 400 pounds or greater per hour Destruction efficiency of at least 99.9% for organic contaminants to a level of less than 20 ppb for nerve agents and 200 ppb for blister agents Can meet federal, state and local permitting requirements at various chemical demilitarization sites This announcement is for information gathering purposes only and should not be construed as a request for proposals. Technical information/concepts should be submitted, but no cost data is to be included. Please provide a technology description of five pages or less, including a process schematic, with emphasis on the criteria listed above. The information should be sent to Mr. Gary Wneck at wneckg@saic-abingdon.com by 29 July 2005.
