- Description
- Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), a nuclear fusion research facility operated by Princeton University under contract to the United States Department of Energy, is seeking expressions of interest from firms and organizations qualified and experienced in the conduct of oral history interviews. This is a Request for Information (RFI) announcement, not a solicitation. After consideration of response information, comments, and capabilities, a solicitation may be issued at a later date. Interviews will be conducted with four internationally-recognized plasma physicists to document their life-long involvement with -- and contributions to -- controlled thermonuclear fusion research. Three of the interviewees reside in California, and the other resides in the United Kingdom. At least one trip to each of the interviewee?s locations will be required. Both the interviewer and interviewee will be required to sign over copyright in and to the interview to Princeton University. The individual being interviewed will have an opportunity to restrict access to specific sections or to the full transcript for a finite period of time to protect the privacy of living individuals. A restriction statement will be written into the copyright agreement signed by both the interviewer and interviewee before interviews commence. The agreement will also include a statement allowing the interview to be posted on the internet at some time in the future when restrictions have lapsed. The interviews will be audio taped, transcribed by a professional transcriber, and edited by both the interviewer and interviewee for accuracy. The edited transcript will be placed on the Department of Energy Web site. The original tapes of the interview will reside at archives at Princeton University. Interviews will focus on the individual?s work in the fusion research area. The Interviewer will prepare questions to guide and structure the interviews. Interviewers should be historians with a doctorate in the history of science and history of physics with oral history interview experience. Offerors will include interviewer(s) names and qualifications in their proposals, and the selected contractor shall not substitute proposed individuals without the express approval of PPPL. The interviewer(s) will conduct preparatory research prior conducting the interviews. This project will result in two products for each individual interviewed: digital audio recordings of interviews, and edited transcripts of the interviews in both digital form and hard copy. Source selection criteria will, at a minimum, include: (1) Experience and education of proposed interviewer; (2) Prior experience of organization supporting interviewer; (3) Proposed time schedule to complete the interviews; and (4) Price. All interested and capable parties are invited to submit capability statements, budgetary cost information, and comments in relation to this RFI. This information should be submitted via electronic copy to Ms. Arlene White, Senior Buyer, PPPL, at awhite@pppl.gov. All phone inquiries should be directed to Ms. White at 609-243-2080.
