Description
This project will convert an existing gravel surfaced parking area to an asphalt surfaced facility. The existing gravel surface will be scarified, processed, watered and compacted prior to the placement of a lift of crushed rock to provide a base for a lift of hot asphalt concrete. The Parking Area is approximately 1200 long and the surface area is approximately 49,000 square feet. Crushed rock will be obtained from a commercial source. Hot asphalt concrete will be obtained from a commercial source that provides hot asphalt concrete for County, State, and / or federal construction projects on a regular basis. A drainage ditch with an asphalt surfaced ford will be constructed to improve drainage in the Parking Area adjacent to an existing vault toilet. A minor amount of excavation and embankment will be necessary prior to the placement of the crushed rock.**************** This project is located on the South slope of Mt St Helens at an elevation of approximately 3700 feet. Exit Interstate 5 at Exit 22, Woodland Washington. Proceed East via State Highway 503 for approximately 32 miles to Cougar, Wash. Continue East via Hwy 503 and USFS Rd 90 for approximately 7 miles to the intersection with USFS Rd 83. Exit USFS Rd 90 and proceed via USFS Rd 8300 for approximately 3 miles to the intersection of USFS Rds 8300 and 8100. From the intersection (Rds 8100 and 8300), proceed Northwest via Rd 8100 for approximately 1 mile to the intersection with Rd 8100830, then proceed East via Rd 8100830 for approximately 2.5 miles to Climber?s Bivouac.
