- Description
- PROVIDE SIMPLIFIED ANTENNA DESIGNS FOR AN ACTIVE-PASSIVE INTEGRATED TRANSPONDER (A-PIT) TAG SYSTEM FOR THE NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES SERVICE (NMFS). NMFS REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO INTERROGATE FISH PASSING THROUGH FCRPS TO PROVIDE PRECISE REACH SURVIVAL ESTIMATES. MOST OF THE TAGGED FISH PASSING THROUGH THE SPILLWAYS AT MOST DAMS ARE NOT INTERROGATED. NMFS ALSO RECOGNIZES BIASES INHERENT IN USING BYPASS SYTEM PIT-TAG DATA TO INFER POPULATION LEVEL REACH SURVIVAL. A PASSIVE-ACTIVE TAG THAT CAN OPERATE AS BOTH A RADIO TAG AND A PIT-TAG WILL ALLOW INTERROGATION OF TAGGED FISH IN SPILLWAYS AND TURBINE INTAKES. THIS STUDY IS A FOLLOW-ON TO A PREVIOUS STUDY IN WHICH DESTRON TECHNOLOGIES INVESTIGATED THE FEASIBILITY OF DEVELOPING AN ACTIVE-PASSIVE INTEGRATED TRANSPONDER. WORK UNDER PROPOSED CONTRACT WILL FOCUS ON AN ANTENNA DESIGN(S) THAT MIGHT BE SUITABLE FOR THE A-PIT TAG SYSTEM. FINAL REPORT ON TRANSPONDER STUDY CONTAINS DESTRON PROPRIETARY AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. THIS IS A SIMPLIFIED ACQUISITION WITH AN ESTIMATED VALUE OF LESS THAN $100,000.
