- Description
- The National Cancer Institute, Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG), plans to procure services for Mutational Spectrum Analysis of the Von Hippel Lindau Gene in Kidney Tumors from Cases Enrolled in the Eastern European Renal Cell Cancer Study. This requirement is being prepared in accordance with the format in FAR 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items. The acquisition will be made pursuant to the authority in FAR 13.5 to use simplified procedures for commercial items. This acquisition is set aside for a Total Small Business. The North American Industry Classification Code is 541380 and the business size standard is $10M. Background: The incidence rates of kidney cancer vary substantially across Central and Eastern Europe, from a low of 9.0 per 100,000 men in Bucharest to a high of 17.0 per 100,000 men in the Czech Republic in the early 1990s. The diverse incidence rates may in part be due to a wide range of environmental exposures, but the specific reasons are unclear. The countries of Central and Eastern Europe have experienced serious occupational and environmental health problems because of insufficient resources for improvement of old fashioned technologies and replacement of worn out equipment to reduce exposures. The greater chance and more diverse levels of exposures to occupational carcinogens in this part of the world present a unique opportunity to assess occupational risks for cancer. In 2000, investigators at NCI in collaboration with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) launched a case-control study of kidney cancer in six centers in Central and Eastern European countries (I.E., Bucharest, Romania; Brno, Olomouc, and Prague Czech Republic; Lodz, Poland; and Moscow, Russia) to evaluate risks in relation to occupational exposures. Contractor Requirement: This procurement shall be for DNA extraction of formlin fixed paraffin embedded and mutational spectrum analysis of exons 1-3 of the VHL gene. 1) Design amplicons for each target fragment for analysis of three exons of the VHL gene, 2) Optimize PCR conditions for PCR amplification of exons 1-3 of the VHL gene, 3) Perform double stranded sequencing and screen PCR amplified samples for sequence variations, etc. Period of Performance: August 15, 2005 ? August 14, 2006 This is a firm fixed price contract. Interested parties may request a copy of the solicitation from Malinda Holdcraft, Contract Specialist via email at holdcram@exchange.nih.gov or via fax at 301-402-4513.
