Description
Proposals are being sought for the Bead Lake Fuels Reduction Stewardship Project. This project is located on the Newport Ranger District of the Colville National Forest. This project involves timber removal, thinning, whip falling, machine piling, hand piling, road constructing and maintenance, and fence construction. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies to perform specified. Restoration objectives, requirements for the project area are: 1. To reduce the threat of severe wildfire within the Bead and No Name areas, using a combination of mechanical and hand thinning methods; 2. Utilize Timber Resources- Provide wood resource to forest product industry; 3. Improve Road Management- Provide re-construction and maintenance to meet project area transportation plan and resource needs; and 4. Protect forest resources from excessive damage from off road vehicles. To accomplish these objectives, the contract includes the following components: 1,181 CCF (602 MBF) sawlogs and pulp to be removed. Primary species are Lodgepole Pine, Douglas-Fir/Western Larch and Grand fir. Hand thinning of pre-commercial sized trees approx. 540 acres, hand and machine piling of all slash created by operations approx 10 acres and 200 acres; and fence construction to protect resources from excessive damage approx 500 feet, and road reconstruction and maintenance, approx. 3 miles total. Work can begin in summer/fall of 2005 based on contractors approved schedule. All work shall be completed by December 31, 2007. Project is located in Township 32 North, Range 45 East, Secs. 5, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 15. A site visit / preproposal meeting is scheduled for August 17, 2005 at 9 am. Directions to the initial meeting point for the site visit is as follows: From Newport, Washington travel east on State Highway 2 across bridge over Pend Oreille River. At east end of bridge turn left onto county road-9305, Le Clerc Road, travel Le Clerc Road for approximately 2.8 miles, then turn right onto County Road-3029. Proceed on County Road-3029 for approximately 6 miles to junction of County Road -3029, Bead Lake Drive and Forest Road 3215. Meeting will be started at this location.
