Description
The purpose of this announcement is to investigate if there are available sources to produce and field the Heavy Scraper. The technical requirements are subject to change. Mil Spec (Mil-S-53000) and a questionnaire are published (on TACOM's web sit e: http://contracting.tacom.army.mil/ssn/sources.htm ) to gather industry input. The Mil Spec is provided as a general guideline and will be updated and re-written as a performance based Purchase Description prior to Solicitation for Bids. DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT: The scraper is a diesel engine driven, self propelled, two-axle, pneumatic-tired, 14-18 cu yd minimum struck capacity machine, with a minimum rated payload capacity of 48,000 pounds. This commercial open bowl machine is designed and used fo r cutting, scraping, self-loading, hauling, dumping and spreading of earth during earthmoving operations. The scraper must have the capability to be pushed loaded with the Armys T9 series (CAT D7) bulldozer. Furthermore, the scraper must be transportabl e by highway using the following military vehicles: M916 series tractors, M920 tractors and M870 series semi-trailers. Military rail and marine modes of transport must also apply. If possible the scraper should also meet the following requirements: Air Transport by C-5 / C-17 aircraft, highway transport by XM1143 Self Load Off Load Trailer, ability to be push loaded with a (CAT) D8 dozer, additional bowl capacity (up to 24 cubic yards struck) and optional ballistic cab protection.
