- NAICS Code: 541990 THIS IS A PRE-SOLICITATION SYNOPSIS FOR STUDENT LABORATORY SERVICES TO BE HIRED ON A CONTRACT BASIS BY THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY. The solicitation number is ORDPS/XN1040 (RFQ-RT-05-00329). The Agency has a requirement for a student contractor to work within a multi-disciplinary research team and provide technical laboratory support for Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program- Great River Ecosystems (EMAP-GRE). The projects for which the student contractor is needed involve understanding information management and inorganic chemistry. The student contractor shall assist in information management (primary) and general laboratory activities (secondary) such as, sample tracking, databases, cleaning of laboratory glassware, preparation of common reagents, extraction and digestion of soils for nutrients, sample nutrient analysis, and flame atomic adsorption techniques. All samples shall be prepared according to the technical requirements as specified in MED protocols or instructions provided by their mentor. The student contractor must have a degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, ecology, toxicology, or environmental sciences or a relevant area of study at an accredited college/university within the past year. The student must be familiar with basic laboratory health and safety. The student will be given additional safety training at the Mid-Continent Ecology Division. This work is to begin approximately early September 2005and will last six (6) months with three additional 6-month option periods. The total period of performance shall not exceed 24 months. It is anticipated the student contractor will work an average estimate of 15-30 hours per week during the academic year; with an average estimate of 25-40 hours per week during academic breaks. The principal duty station location is the EPA,6201 Congdon Blvd, Duluth, MN 55804. Work will be performed primarily in an office setting. The contract for 6 months will represent an estimate of 504 hours of effort.
