- Description
- Researchers at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) have developed a technology to enable the efficient use of solid acid catalysts in the alkylation of isoparaffins with olefins. This technology provides for the regeneration of a solid acid catalyst with Supercritical fluids (SCF). Solid catalysts are relatively harmless and pose far less risk to workers and the environment as compared to liquid acid catalysts. However, their vulnerability to fouling has generally limited their activity to three to five hours. INL researchers have developed a process that extends solid catalyst activity to up to nine days, or as much as a 7,000 percent improvement over normal catalyst activity. The novel INL technology could enable industries to replace environmentally risky liquid acid catalyzed processes currently in use. The INL is soliciting interest from qualified industrial firms interested in participating in projects and commercializing these technologies. It is anticipated that commercialization will be carried out by licensing this technology to a company. Additional development and support may be possible through Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with some or all of the funding support being provided by industrial partner(s) interested in commercializing the technology. The INL has a patent and patents pending on this technology. See U.S. Patent Nos. 6,103,948, 6,887,813, and 6,579,821, and Patent Application Nos. 10/613,719 and 10/986,742. The INL invites interested parties to contact us regarding the details of licensing and implementing this technology into an operation. Interested parties should respond on or before August 31, 2005.
