- Description
- The U.S. Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD) is seeking information on potential technologies and approaches for collaborative development and demonstration for updating its avionics-electronics research and development project plans for manned and unmanned rotorcraft. These requested technologies should address identifying capabilities, technologies, and/or systems that have the potential to help the directorate satisfy future requirements. AATD works with 6.2 and 6.3 levels of Res earch, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) funding. The Army is interested in technologies that will be ready for demonstration in FY2006-2013. Anticipated technologies include, but are not limited to new technologies in the avionics industry that c an be applicable to both manned rotorcraft and all classes and sizes of (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs); these technologies and applications include but are not limited to communication, navigation, IFF (identify friend/foe), displays (including but not limited to heads up or helmet mounted), mission processing and associated architectures, high bandwidth data links, data buses, digital maps, air traffic management, networked systems, antennas and antenna technologies, embedded systems, on-board wireless communications, photonics and other technologies applicable to rotorcraft applications. Avionics that are used exclusively in Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) are not covered by this RFI. AATD is also considering new technologies that would aid in the d evelopment, procurement, or sustainment of avionics and mission equipment for rotary wing vehicles. These technologies include but are not limited to EMI/EMC suppression, new bonding techniques, new cabling methods, and new materials testing. The Army is also interested in investigating emerging technologies such as MEMS/NEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems/ Nanoelectromechanical Systems) devices and other microcircuits that are not currently fielded or widely fielded in the military avionics industry but could possibly be used in a military rotorcraft environment. Information submitted should provide an expression of the level of interest in collaborative development and sufficient detail in the contractors potential approaches, technologies, capabilit ies and past relevant experience to exchanging information to improve understanding of the Government requirements and industry capability. This announcement should not be construed as a commitment by the Government. Any information submitted by industry will not constitute an offer, which could be accepted by the Government to create a binding contract. Responses are requested by 7 September 2005. Address responses to Commander, U.S. Army AATD, AMSRD-AMR-AA-I (Allen Walker), Bldg. 401, Lee Blvd, Fort Eu stis, VA 3604-5577. Mr. Allen Walker can be reached by telephone at (757) 878-2516 or e-mail at awalker@aatd.eustis.army.mil. Secondary contact is Mr. George Logan and he can be reached at 757-878-4526 or email at glogan@aatd.eustis.army.mil.
