Description
The United States Postal Service intends to award a Fixed Price contract for the construction of a new Mail Sanitization Facility (Project #Q36457).The construction estimates for this project are in the range of $12,000,000 to $16,000,000. The scope of the work includes a 34,156 (+/-) s.f. building to be located on a 3 (+/-) acre portion of an improved site at 900 Brentwood Avenue NE in Washington, DC where the Curseen-Morris P&DC, a major active Postal facility, is located. The work will include, but is not limited to the following: Site Work: Erosion and sediment control; asphalt and concrete walkway and pavement demolition; major storm drainage relocation; site grading, including cuts and engineered fills; primary electric feeders from the power company high voltage service point; data service extension from the P&DC building; sanitary sewer main extension; potable water service extension; new asphalt and concrete pavements, curbs, gutters & walks; landscaping and irrigation. Site lighting, Building Shell/Finishes: Concrete foundations, including heavy mats, and slabs on grade. A large mass concrete shielding structure, completely contained within the building. Exterior wall materials include unit masonry and face brick as well as insulated steel panels with steel stud and gypsum board backup. Insulated panels are prefinished. Exposed unit masonry is painted. Roof framing is structural steel joists and hot rolled shapes supported by structural steel columns. Roofing system is modified bitumen membrane and insulation on a metal deck. Interior partitions are unit masonry and gypsum board on steel studs. Interior finishes are paint on structural steel, unit masonry, or gypsum board as appropriate for space use and paint on interior doors and trim material; ceramic tile on bathroom walls; exposed concrete floors in mail processing and handling areas as well as sanitization equipment support spaces; resilient tile in corridors and in some office spaces, carpet in some office spaces. Suspended acoustical ceilings in all non-mail processing and non-equipment areas, and in sanitization equipment ?Modulator? room. Mechanical System: Centrifugal chillers and cooling towers provide chilled water for air conditioning and sanitization equipment cooling. Boilers provide heating water. Appropriate piping systems serve the equipment manifolds and air handling units. The multi-zone air distribution system is controlled to ensure negative pressure in sanitization operations areas. Separate exhaust systems collect and treat air from sanitization operations areas. A sprinkler system with booster pumps is provided for fire protection. Normal sanitary and potable water systems are included. A small air compressor with distribution piping provides service air for sanitization operations. Electrical System: High voltage service entrance connected to double ended main switchgear. Power distribution to MEP equipment, sanitization equipment, and lighting/convenience circuits. Lighting fixtures inside and outside. Low voltage systems include fire alarm, access control, security CCTV, datacom and telecom, and public address. Work by Others: The materials handling system and sanitization equipment will be installed by others. Location of electrical and mechanical rough-in work performed under this building contract is critical and must be closely coordinated with the appropriate other contractors. Proposals are due by 3:00 PM Eastern, September 16, 2005 and should be hand delivered or mailed, (using one of the many services offered by the Postal Service) to United States Postal Service, Attention: Mr. Mike Miller, Suite 300, 4301 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22203-1840. Any award of this construction contract is contingent upon approval of funding by the appropriate USPS funding authority.
