Description
The Forest Service has a requirement to inspect, and repair/refurbish Four (4) Modular Aerial Fire Fighting Units that are used in military aircraft which have reached the limits of serviceability. The Forest Service requires that the Modular Aerial Fire Fighting Units identified be thoroughly inspected to determine the condition and the expected life remaining. The inspection of the retardant tanks and the discharge tubes shall be inspected using non-destructive inspection techniques to determine the remaining wall thickness and the ability to with stand operating pressure. The remaining portion of the units shall be inspected by efficient means effective to determine serviceability through repairs or replacement. After repairs, the units should have a lifecycle of at least 5 years of trouble free operations. The life limited parts such as high pressure air tanks must be checked for expiration and replaced if the expiration date is within the 5 years of expected lifecycle. All the wiring and associated circuitry must be inspected, repaired, or replaced as necessary. The air storage and distribution system must be inspected and repaired or replaced as necessary. Any defects found in the chassis or support system must be repaired. The tanks and associated pressurized portions will be tested after final repair by hydrostatic testing to ensure safe operation of the system.
