Description
The Intramural Research Program (IRP), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to award a sole source purchase to Oregon Health & Science University in Oregon for Characterizing BMPRII transgenic. The vendor will design and carry out a protocol based on established protocols approved by the Animal Care and Use Committee of Oregon Health & Science University. The techniques and facilities required to carry out the required experiments are unique. Dr.Lein? s laboratory has uniquely established protocols to study dendritic growth in SCG, She also has the specific BMP reagents in house and her protocols have already been approved by the Oregon ACUC. No other labs have this combination of established protocols, unique reagents and prior ACUC approvals in place. They have developed and characterized an in vitro model that is uniquely suited to addressing the questions that the IRP scientists are asking relate to this group of experiments. Dr. Lein is able to characterize the effects of the TH-tBMPRII transgene on BMP signaling in catecholaminergic neurons by determining if BMP-induced dendritic growth and/or BMP-induced of phosphorylated Smad is altered in sympathetic neurosn cultured from mice expressing one (heterozygous) or two (homozygous) tBMPRII alleles relative to wildtype mice.
