Description
Notice of Intent to negotiate on a sole source basis with the University of Colorado, Boulder CO and specifically working with Dr. John Pellegrino, Research Associate/Professor. The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has requirements for analyzing of data gathered, setting up and defining model requirements, and renewing the OLI System software license for Concentrate Precipitation: Brine Stream Modeling and Comparison to Real Streams. The scope of the project includes modeling a real brine stream using commercially available complex aqueous mixture software. Currently Reclamation is funding a project in the City of Phoenix that is studying concentrate minimization by evaporating an RO concentrate stream in successive evaporative stages. The data from this project will serve as the model stream for verification of OLI Systems complex aqueous mixture software. Dr. John Pellegrino has established contacts with OLI systems that provide the software. Part of Dr. Pellegrino's expertise will be leveraged to enhance the software's kinetics and/or thermophysical capability. The intent is for Dr. Pellegrino to assist with and supervise the project and to renew the OLI Systems software license. The contractor must have significant expertise and accessibility to various instruments and equipments to achieve the goals of this project. Contractor must have great expertise in membrane separations and complex aqueous mixtures and also have prior experience in using various complex aqueous mixture software models, including OLI Systems software. The contractor must have access to specific pieces of equipment pertinent to achieving the goals of this project and have experience in using this equipment. The equipment includes crystallization and concentrate generation (bench and pilot scale RO/NF modules) unit operations (equipment). Technical Requirements 1. Analysis of data gathered from a real stream for further verification of the OLI System's Software 2. Define and setup of modeling requirements needed to use the OLI Systems software a. Renew license for OLI Systems complex aqueous mixture modeling tool. b. Setup simulation problem with OLI Systems complex aqueous mixture modeling tool. c. Model brine stream from real brine stream. d. Compare real versus predicted streams e. Make suggestions for software improvement
