Description

The Food and Drug Administration intends to award a Purchase Order on a sole source basis to LONG, JOHN ASSOCIATES, 14114 BRIARHILLS PARKWAY, HOUSTON, TX 77077-1004, for the acquisition of a Combo III Portable electronic nose (includes Combo of Pen-III and EDU-III). This equipment has high sensitivity sensors needed to record electronic patterns of the volatile components in food, in particular in foodstuff with low emission (flour, rice, bean, nut). The PEN-III electronic nose is based on 10 different metal oxide sensors (MOS-s) that give the highest response to volatile organics and are the least affected by the moisture content of the vapors. The small detector-size and the additional sample enrichment device (EDU-III) that ensures both high sensitivity and repeatability is a unique feature. The combination of these two (Combo-III) is the only portable (hand-held) MOS-based electronic nose available on the market. An award will be made in ten (10) days from the date of this notice. This is not a request for quotes; however, sources may submit descriptive literature, which fully demonstrates their capabilities, which will be considered by the agency. All responses or questions regarding this posting must be in writing and can be sent via email to APagan@oc.fda.gov. No phone calls will be accepted. This sole source procurement will be awarded as a simplified acquisition in accordance with FAR Subpart 13.5.
