- This solicitation has attachments that will only be available by downloading from our website at http://www.lewis.army.mil/doc/.It is the responsibility of all potential quoters/offerors to access this site to obtain all information in reference to t his solicitation. This requirement will be all or none. Tire chains for the Stryker vehicle - 2 sets needed per vehicle. Purpose; To enhance the off-road mobility of the Interim Armored Vehicle (IAV) in conditions of mud, snow and ice. NSN 2540-01-498-882 a)They shall be designed to fit on the Michelin 12.0 0R20 XML tire. One individual shall be able to perform installation and removal of the tire chains easily without the aid of any tools. The chains shall be equipped with a tensioning lever, located on the outward side of the tire when installed. b.)They s hall have a diagonal as opposed to a straight pattern (see figure 1) to increase lateral stability of the vehicle on slippery side slopes. A ladder type is not acceptable. c.)The chain's tread net shall consist of 8 cross sections. d.)The links on the tread net shall have as a minimum a 8.2 mm square cross-section and a maximum of 28-mm pitch length. The square cross-section, as compared to a round cross-section with a 8,2m m diameter (see figure 2), is required for increased grip, a larger hardened surface and an increased wear volume. The links on the tread net shall be manufactured from Nickel-Manganese fine-grained alloy steel or equivalent alloy steel. e.)The links in t he tread net, the connecting rings and the side chains shall be case-hardened to 41 - 49 HRC core hardness, and minimum (greater than) 64 HRC effective surface hardness to a depth of 0.55-0.75 mm. f.)The connection between the links in the tread net and th e side chain shall be welded.g.)The links of the side chains shall have a round cross-section of a minimum of 7-mm diameter and a pitch length of 30.5 mm.h.)The links of the tensioning chain shall have a round cross-section of a minimum of 7 mm and a pitch length of 43 mm. The tensioning chain shall have a tensioning spring at the end (with anti-overstretching device) and snap release.i.)The chain assemblies shall be resistant to brittleness down to temperatures of -45?C. j.)The chain shall have a minimum life expectancy of 185 miles / 300 kilometers when operated on a vehicle at a speed of 31 mph / 50 km/h on concrete surface. k.) The weight of one pair of chains shall not exceed 110 pounds. l.)The chain shall be corrosion protected. Deliverables: The Contractor shall provide the following items for demonstration and vehicle installation to confirm form and fit: a.)Two chains shall be provided per pair, with each chain packaged in a linen sack. b.) Each pair shall be supplied with repair parts tha t can be installed by the vehicle operator without the use of special tools, an installation aid and a copy of the installation instructions.
