Description
NAICS Code: 541710 The Mid-Continent Ecology Division (MED) of the National Health and Environmental Research Laboratory (NHEERL), Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Duluth, MN, is seeking a student with a BA/BS degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, ecology, toxicology, or environmental sciences within the past year, or be a graduate student in a relevant area of study at an accredited college/university to provide services under a contractual agreement. Student with a background in cell/molecular biology is preferred. The student will work within a multi-disciplinary research team and provide technical laboratory support for research projects that characterize the effects of chemical contaminants on aquatic organisms. The projects for which the student contractor is needed involve understanding the effects of chemicals on amphibian thyroid axis. The student will be expected to assist in general laboratory activities such as, cleaning of laboratory glassware, preparation of common reagents, conducting elisas and QPCR. The student must be familiar with basic laboratory health and safety. The student will be given additional safety training at the Mid-Continent Ecology Division. The period of performance will begin approximately October 15, 2005 and end approximately October 14, 2006 with an option for an additional 12 month period of performance through October 14, 2007. The optional period of performance will be exercised at the discretion of the Government. It is anticipated that the contractor will work up to 40 hours per week.
