Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), Radiation Biology Branch (RBB), plans to procure on a sole source basis with Alpha Innotech Corporation, 2401 Merced Street, San Leandro, CA 94577, for a FluorChem SP 4 megapixel Superior Performance Fluorescence, Chemiluminescence and Visible Imaging System. The Radiation Biology Branch is investigating tumor biology with special attention paid to the effects of radiation and chemotherapy on both cancerous and normal cells. This Tumor Biology section of the RBB is currently investigating the effects of various free radical scavengers called nitroxides on both tumor growth and normal tissue protection after x-ray or gamma radiation. The Contractor's 12 bit Peltier cooled (-28degreeC) CCD camera system shall have the necessary sensitivity and software performance to obtain high quality gel images in short time spans. The system shall be a very sensitive 12 bit camera with a 70 dB dynamic range and have approximately 50% Q/E at 425nm for superior chemiluminescence sensitivity. The camera shall have a minimum 4 million pixel resolution and an f1.8 or better lense. The camera shall also have a Real time movie mode which allows for continuous collection of images until the appropriate exposure is obtained for each gel. The light tight box shall be optimally set up for absorbance, fluorescence, and chemiluminescence imaging, and shall be upgradeable to higher end cameras with minimal modifications. The system shall have the ability to rapidly obtain high quality gel images for publications of our biological work. There is no other source known to the NCI researcher for this digital camera system that has the necessary features and software required. This acquisition will be processed under FAR Part 12-Acquisition for Commercial Items and will be made pursuant to the authority in FAR 13.5 to use simplified procedures for commercial acquisitions.
