Description
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is interested in receiving information on commercially available manual and or automated industrial paper shredding equipment that will meet specified requirements. The Bureau is not issuing a solicitation at this time, but rather, would like to review product literature and pricing as part of market research to determine interest and capability of potential sources for this requirement. BEP believes that such a shredder needs to be capable of shredding either US currency sheets (26 inches x 23 inches and 32.283 inches x 27.559 inches) and or currency notes (approximately 6.25 inches x 2.75 inches). The Bureau expects such equipment capacity to handle individual notes and or sheets through 100 notes or sheets at a time. Throughput shall be determined based on the equipment capability of shredding notes and or sheets. The shredded material must not exceed .375 inch square (9.25mm square), or .08 inches x .75 inches (2.1mm x 19mm). The currency material has special characteristics. The tear resistance at thread in machine direction is approximately 75 grams while resistance of the blank stock is at least 84 grams. The tensile strength (wet) of approximately 1.3 Kilo Newton per Meter measured cross direction on the blank paper. The equipment must be capable of 98 percent up-time. Bulk shredding should be approximately 100,000 notes or sheets per hour. Note or sheet individual piece capacity shall be approximately 10,000 notes or sheets per 8 hour shift. The equipment must be capable of bagging the shreds or be attached to the BEP?s shred take-a-way system. The equipment must not exceed 5 foot high x 6 feet deep x 3 feet wide due to space requirements. Design must consider existing layout, power requirements and output. Safety features include noise level, OSHA regulation 29CFR 1910.212 guards for rotating and reciprocating parts. Heated surfaces shall not exceed 135 degrees F during continuous operation. Your response will be treated as information only. The Government will not pay for information requested, nor will it compensate any respondent for any cost incurred in developing information provided to the government. Interested parties should send questions regarding this request should be directed to Donald Baron, Contract Specialist, 202-874-3143. .
