- Description
- The Goddard Space Flight Center?s Destiny mission team is developing a proposal to submit in response to the upcoming NASA Research Announcement (NRA) for NASA-DOE Joint Dark Energy Mission (JDEM) concepts. The proposed mission concept is called Destiny, which consists of the full suite of hardware and software capabilities necessary to conduct a space-based JDEM science investigation. The key hardware elements include the Optical Telescope Assembly (OTA), Science Instrument and Fine Guidance System (SI/FGS), and the spacecraft bus. The goal of the concept study is to develop a mission architecture to be proposed for the JDEM Announcement of Opportunity (AO), to be released no sooner than Spring of 2007. Thus, this proposal effort is comprised of two phases: the JDEM NRA for mission concept studies and the JDEM AO. NASA HQ is expected to select one or more mission concepts for study from the NRA. This study will be ~2 years in duration, and the results of this study, in addition to fulfilling the obligations of the NRA, will be used to propose to the JDEM AO. This partnership opportunity is being issued to select a teaming partner(s) to: Develop the Destiny mission concept and observing strategy Develop all or a subset of the following: o Optical elements or all of the Optical Telescope Assembly o Science Instrument concept o Fine Guidance capability o Focal Plane Arrays and Detector System o Spacecraft Bus Collaborate in future JDEM development opportunities. Responders may propose a partnership to provide for all mission elements, a single element, or any subset of the above elements. There will be no exchange of funds between the teaming partners for the JDEM NRA proposal and JDEM AO proposal. If the Destiny concept is selected in the NRA for study, some funding will be available according to the budget developed during the proposal preparation. If Destiny is selected as a result of the JDEM AO process, the partner(s) will be funded according to the budget developed during the mission AO proposal phase. Questions about this POD should be directed to Dr. Jon Morse (Phone: 301-286-7923, Email: Jon.A.Morse@nasa.gov). Final Due Date of POD Response Responses to this POD are due by 5 pm EDT on September 30, 2005. An electronic PDF document may be sent to the above Email address at this time.
