- Sources Sought Notice: The AFFTC, Edwards Air Force Base, CA is seeking potential sources capable of providing Signal Conditioning Amplifier and a Total Air Temperature probe, equal to or better than item specified below. REQUIREMENT # 1: SIGNAL CONDITIONER AMPLIFIER. DESCRIPTION: Signal conditioner converts the resistance signal of a platinum resistance thermometer (PRT) into an accurate 0 to 5 VDC linear output. Signal conditioner must be compatible with airborne qualified Total Air Temperature probe cited in this requirement. SPECIFICATIONS: PRT Compatibility Ice point (R0) of 50 ohms Temperature coefficient (α) of 0.003925 Ω/ Ω◦C PRT Leadwire Connections Three wire with 0.25Ω maximum leadwire resistance Accuracy Signal conditioner output will be within ?0.25% of Full Scale (FS) for all inputs. Accuracy is based on Root-Sum-Squared (RSS) summation of the following error components:  Long-Term Stability: 0.05% FS (maximum)  Repeatability: 0.1% FS (maximum)  Linearity: 0.15% FS (based on least-squares method)  Temperature Sensitivity: 0.002% FS/◦C (maximum)  Supply Sensitivity: 0.01% FS/volt (maximum) Momentary Power Interruption: Automatic recovery Signal Conditioner Temperature Range Operating: -54◦ C to +71◦ C (-65◦ F to +160◦ F) Storage: -65◦ C to +125◦ C (-85◦ F to +257◦ F) Reliability Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) is greater than 100,000 hours (based on MIL-HDBK-217E). Maintainability No scheduled maintenance. Signal conditioner can be repaired and recalibrated. Electrical Specifications Input voltage: 28 VDC (nominal) 22-32 VDC Power Requirements: 2 watts (maximum) Output Voltage: 0.5 VDC (nominal) Output Load: 5000 ohms (minimum) Output Isolation: 150K ohms (minimum) from the supply voltage Short Circuit Protection: No damage from continuously shorted output leads Reverse Polarity Protection: No damage from continuously reversed power leads Dielectric Strength: 100 VAC (rms) Insulated Resistance: 100 Megohms (min) at 100 VDC Environmental Specifications Explosive Atmosphere: Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 511.1, Procedure 1 Temperature-Altitude: Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 507.1, Procedure 1 Humidity: Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 507.1, Procedure 1 Salt Fog: Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 509.1, Procedure 1 Fungus: Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 508.1, Procedure 1 Dust: Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 510.1, Procedure 1 Shock: 15 g?s, 11 ms, half since (Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 516.2, Procedure 1) Acoustic Noise: 140 dB for 30 minutes (Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 515.2, Procedure 1) Random Vibration: Wo = .04 g2/Hz, 2 hours/axis operating (Tested to MIL-STD-810, Method 514.2) REQUIREMENT # 2: Total Air Temperature (TAT) probe. TOTAL AIR TEMPERATURE (TAT) PROBES DESCRIPTION: Total Air Temperature (TAT) probe is a Type 2, dual element MS27188-2 probe with an electric temperature compensating type heater integrally constructed in the probe housing permitting accurate temperature measurements even during atmospheric icing conditions. It is designed for use on subsonic and supersonic high performance military aircraft requiring precise measurement of TAT in order that outside Static Air Temperature (SAT) may be determined. TAT or SAT is used, along with Mach number, to compute True airspeed. SPECIFICATIONS: Flight Operating Envelope Altitude: -1,000 to 100,000 feet Mach Number: 0 to 3+ TAT: -70◦ C to +350◦ C Performance Element Resistance: 50 ohms (?0.05 ohms) R vs. T Relationship: Per Calendar-Van Dusen equation, with the following constants: α = 0.003925 β = 0 for positive T, 0.1 for negative T, where T is temperature in ◦ C δ = 1.45 Element Calibration Interchangeability: ?(0.25◦ C + 0.005T), where T is the measured temperature in ◦ C Time Constant (63%): 1 second maximum @mass flow of 40 lbs/ft2/sec Deicing Capability: Probe shall be capable of deicing and anti-icing at the following test conditions:  325 knots (?25 kn)  -30◦ C (?5◦)  1.25 grams/m3 (?0.25 g/m3) Electrical Element Excitation Current: 1 milliampere (mA) is recommended, 5 mA is acceptable, but produces larger self-heating error. Deicing Power: 310 Watts maximum (115 VAC) Environmental Maximum Temperature Exposure: -70◦ C to +350◦ C Vibration: MIL-STD-810D, Method of 514.3, Cat. 5, Wo shall be 0.072 g2/Hz, from 15 to 2000 Hz Mechanical Electrical connector: MS33678R-18-1P Mating Electrical connector: MS3106(or 7, or 8)-18-1S Qualification Qualified to MIL-P-27723 Salt Spray: MIL-STD-810, Method 509 Fungus: MIL-STD-810, Method 508 Sand and Dust: MIL-STD-810, Method 510 Please note that this synopsis is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation for competitive bids/proposals and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government.
