- Description
- The purpose of this amendment is to post answers to questions received on the solicitation. Since the quote package is due on 9/14/2005 no further questions will be addressed. Question 1: Can I bring Garmin IV handheld GPS units to your G.I.S. specialists and have the Arcview shape files downloaded into these handheld units? This is what we did for the Hayman Fire and other projects that we have done. Answer 1: Yes the Government can download the shapefiles onto a Garmin. Question 2: What potential staging area is best suited for large semi trucks to access? Answer 2: The best areas for trucks would be the northwest one at Dalton Lake. The area is approximately 2.5 acres (where the straw could be unloaded). The other one with a good road is is the southwest one (southwest of the fire). The only concern on this road is that there is a grade when you come off of the highway. They would be starting up it from a complete stop. Not impossible, just annoying. By far the best staging area (but the worst access) is the remaining one north of the fire. There is one corner on this road that would be a concern, the road is somewhat rough compared to the others and does not provide much room for error (some spots are kind of steep). There is a private road off of the interstate right to the site. It would be nice if the contractor could get access through there. There is one tight corner (at the lower end of the private road), but believe there is enough room to get a semi up it. If the contractor is considering hauling straw in on doubles, it is recommended that they look at all sites for themselves. It would be fairly difficult to get them turned around at any of the sites. Question 3: If we identify staging areas that may be closer or more suitable for truck access will the USFS perform the noxious weed and archeaological surveys and clearances or do we need to hire an independant consultant? Answer 3: Yes. We identified the best places near where the work would be done, but that doesn't mean there aren't better sites further off or on private land. The Government will make sure someone is available to assist with heritage and archeological concerns if this comes up.
