- Description
- The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS)wishes to purchase a scanning water phantom for quality assurance and dose distribution measurements in Radiation Oncology. The phantom will be used to measure dose distributions delivered from linear accelerators. All of the following requirements must be met: a. The water tank of the phantom must be large enough to allow at least 50 cm x 60 cm movement in the horizontal plane and at least 40 cm in the vertical plane for the scanning apparatus. b. The movement of the scanning apparatus must allow for measurements in the horizontal and vertical planes as well as any arbitrary plane. The scanning apparatus must allow for the use of ionization chambers and diodes. c. The phantom wall must be composed of transparent plastic on all sides and on the bottom. d. The phantom must have etched alignment lines on the tank walls and on the bottom for positioning purposes. e. The moving apparatus must have stepping motors capable of +/- 0.1 mm positioning accuracy for determination of high dose gradients and at least a 50 mm/sec maximum positioning speed. f. Stepper motors for the scanning apparatus are to be located above the water level g. The drive mechanism is to be composed of stainless steel or other non-corrosive material. h. Construction of the detector holders is to be such that scattered radiation or neutron production from the holders is minimal i. The system is to allow the simultaneous use of a reference and a scanning detector. True auto gain electrometers are to be provided for each detector. Detectors provided are to be ionization chambers of no greater than 0.125 cc each and are to be waterproof. j. A controller is to be provided to allow for visual readout of X,Y,Z positioning k. An electric or hydraulic lifting carriage is to be provided to enable measurements to be taken without the need of treatment table support. 1. A leveling pedestal for the water tank is to be provided. m. All connectors, cables, holders, and clamps are to be provided. n. Software for beam data acquisition and analysis is to be provided. This software is to be validated for use with Windows 95, 98, and NT. A computer with software installed is to be provided with the system. o. Treatment planning software module to allow for data conversion to CMS XIO is to be provided. p. An ionization chamber or diode array with electometer and holder for dynamic field measurements is to be provided. q. A stereotactic chamber of no more than 0.015 cc is to be provided. r. A 0.6 cc waterproof Farmer type chamber is to be provided. s. Installation and training on-site is required. t. Contractor will provide telephone technical support for a period of one year from date of acceptance of equipment at no additional cost to the Government.
