- <font face=Arial color=green>STATEMENT OF WORK ? REGISTERED NURSE ? OSTOMY/WOUND CARE BACKGROUND: The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center is seeking services of an Ostomy/Wound Care Registered Nurse. OBJECTIVES: Request Ostomy/Wound Care services to be provided in an acute care setting; nursing home and on occasion, home care setting. In addition, education and generalized training to be provided to the medical center nursing staff. RESPONSIBILITIES: The contract RN is responsible to answer consults, for ostomy/wound care, generated by medical center staff for both inpatient and outpatient clinics. Will be responsible to place orders for ostomy/wound care supplies. Contract RN will provide education and training to medical center nursing staff to enable continued observation and treatment. On occasion, Contract RN may need to see patient during PM tour or in a home care setting. These visits will be scheduled in advance. Personal vehicle will be utilized for this type of visit with no reimbursement for mileage or liability. PERFORMANCE: Services will primarily be provided approximately 20 hours weekly, Monday ? Friday during the hours of 8:00a.m. and 4:30p.m. Specific work hours will be determined by communication with the COTR and based on patient needs. Performance is based on the expertise and demonstrated skill of the Ostomy/Wound Care Registered Nurse COMPLIANCE: Contract staff are expected to demonstrate nursing skills as accepted as best practice for universal nursing care, medical center policies and in compliance with the JCAHO requirements. DOCUMENTATION: Documentation for each patient seen will be required by the Contract RN?s. This documentation is electronic annotations in the automated patient record. Documentation is required to be completed on the same day as the patient was seen. REQUIREMENTS: Registered Nurses must possess current license, BCLS and evidence of current specialized ostomy care knowledge or experience. Nurses will be required to submit application package along with school transcripts for verification by the Medical Center Human Resource Management Service prior to receiving clinical privileges. WHERE: Services are provided at the VA Medical Center located in Wilkes-Barre, PA in a clinical setting of either: acute care setting; nursing home or outpatient clinic setting. On occasion, services will be performed in the designated patient home. Generally the coverage area is within a 30 mile radius of the Medical Center. WHEN: Services will be provided weekly, approximately 20 hours weekly, Monday - Friday, primarily between 8AM ? 4:30PM basis, on occasion a patient may need to be seen during PM hours. FEDERAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION is required of each ostomy nurse; current cost, $225. is borne by the contractor during the month in which the nurse first reports for work.
