- Description
- THIS IS NOT A NOTICE OF SOLICITATION ISSUANCE. The Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Lakehurst, NJ seeks to identify potential sources for the design, development, fabrication, and testing of upgrades to the existing running gear components for the Navy’s AERO 51 (series) Munitions Trailers (P/N 67A314F100-1, NSN 1740-00-133-7153). The AERO 51 munitions trailer is a towed 8,500 lbs capacity trailer used at Naval Air Stations on improved roads and tarmac surfaces. The AERO 51 trailer is a four-wheel steerable trailer utilizing Ackerman steering and an automotive type internal expanding shoe hydraulic brake system. The trailer’s overall dimensions are 32 inches high by 84 inches wide by 126 inches long (deck). Other characteristics are an 8-inch ground clearance, 72-inch track, 89-inch wheelbase and a maximum speed of 20 MPH. The objective is to improve the existing running gear to current commercial technology and improve maintenance requirements through the acquisition of a Running Gear Retrofit Kit. Running gear improvements shall include a disc brake system; sealed wheel bearings and lightweight drawbar with a spring lift assist. The running gear improvements shall fit within the current physical envelope of the trailer. Any deviation outside the current physical envelope must have concurrence of NAWCADLKE engineering. Improvements shall not change any operating characteristics of the trailer without concurrence of NAWCADLKE engineering. Each retrofit kit will consist of all components needed to perform the installation. All materials and components utilized shall be commercial-off-the shelf (COTS) or non-developmental items (NDI). Installation of the retrofit kit shall require as few modifications as possible to the existing trailer. The government will host an Industry Day on October 26, 2005 at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland. The purpose is to familiarize potential sources with the AERO 51 trailer, the current running gear configuration and scope of effort necessary for the design, fabrication, and testing of the replacement running gear assembly. The Government will provide an overview of the AERO 51 trailer program and the pending solicitation. A formal question and answer period will follow. At least 10 days prior to the industry day, companies interested in attending are requested to provide the following; 1) Company name, address and phone number, 2) Name(s) and title of personnel attending, 3) social security number, 4) date of birth, 5) place of birth (city & state). This information should be emailed to Paul McGuire at paul.mcguire@navy.mil. The subject line of your email response shall read: AERO 51 Industry Day. Attendees should plan to arrive between 0830 and 0900. Industry Day will begin at 0900. This announcement is not a contract, request for proposal, a promise to contract, or commitment of any kind.
