- Description
- NASA/GRC plans to issue a Request for Quote (RFQ) for two PMC pressure vessels (PV) made of a polymer matrix composite (PMC) for a Radioisotope Generator Casing. Currently this pressure vessel has been fabricated using metallic parts. However, NASA requires the PV to be fabricated with PMC for weight reduction. The casing will consist of about 20 mil thin metallic liner (e.g., aluminum) and PMC pressure vessel that is intimately bonded to the metallic liner, but not necessarily with any adhesives. The metallic liner shall serve as a gas permeation barrier, EMI shield, and heat conductor, and will be supplied by NASA as government furnished property. Specifications for the PVs willl be stated in the solicitation when it is issued. This procurement is being conducted under Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See note 26. The NAICS Code and Size Standard are 541710 and 500, respectively, The anticipated release date of RFQ NNC05127396Q is on or about Thursday, October 6, 2005.
