Description

The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Biological Resources Discipline (BRD) anticipates entering into non-competitive discussions with Cambridge Scientific Abstracts of Bethesda, Maryland for a contract to provide support for the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) related to the development of critical infrastructure components of the NBII network of Regional and Thematic Nodes. The NBII serves as an electronic gateway to biological data and information products maintained by federal, state, and local government agencies; non-government institutions; and private sector organizations in the United States and around the world. The USGS NBII program is (1) seeking to expand it's Biocomplexity databases and datasets; (2) continue the development of human population and the environment databases; (3) complete development and maintenance of a Biocomplexity thesaurus and; (4) continue development and implementation of the e-journal for sustainability, science, practice, and policy. Based on information available at this time, the Government considers Cambridge Scientific Abstracts the only firm that can provide these services. The anticipated period of performance is a base year with two 12-month option periods. Firms who believe they can provide the required services are invited to submit an affirmative response within 45 days of the publication date of this notice in accordance with numbered Note 22. Responses should include full technical information on the vendor in such detail as to enable the Government to confirm the submitters capabilities. All such responses will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) IS NOT AVAILABLE. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement. Subject to the Availability of Funds. See Note 22.
