- The U.S. Army, RDECOM has a requirement for an open-tube Microfocus x-ray system design. The smallest focal spot size of the Microfocus x-ray tube shall be no more than 1 micron. The energy output of the Microfocus tube shall be 225 kV or greater in order to penetrate at least a one quarter inch of steel at 1 micron resolution. The Microfocus x-ray system shall be a flexible, multi-purpose unit. The Microfocus x-ray system shall be stand- alone, i.e., not part of a larger inspection cabinet or with unnecessary fixtures or manipulators. The multi-purpose Microfocus x-ray unit shall be easily configurable by operators into multiple inspection methods, and shall be suitable for use in QRL???s existing Computer Tomography (CT) system. The Microfocus x-ray unit shall have a stable high tension generator so that it can produce stable x-ray energies constantly during a long CT scan of a complex customer commodity. Period of performance is to be no more than 14 weeks from date of award and is to include: notification of power, space & environmental requirements, installation and testing; and training of up to (10) ten Government personnel. This requirement will be awarded on a sole source basis to Phoenix X-ray, St. Petersburg, FL 33701 under the approved authority of FAR 6.302. See Note 22.
