Description
The US Army, through the Air Warrior Product Manager, is considering issuing a solicitation/contract for an improved Army Aviation Gaseous Portable Oxygen System (GPOS) that is lighter, more durable, provides more capability and is adaptable to all c urrent and planned Army aircraft. Initial estimates call for 1500-5000 units over a 3 to 5 year period. Current or modified firefighting and scuba equipment will be considered. A GPOS is defined as a self-contained gaseous oxygen system that is either atta ched to a crew member or temporarily mounted to the aircraft in such a manner as to allow rapid installation and removal. In addition to the general oxygen system requirements specified in Army Regulation 95-1, the Army requires a system that provides an a utomatic regulated oxygen flow at any given altitude, display warning indicators, interfaces with current aviation oxygen masks, is compatible with current and planned head worn protective equipment (flight helmet, chemical protective mask, etc.), and pro vides a minimum of two (2) hours (four (4) hours desired) of oxygen for aircrews and occupants at altitudes and environments specified in AR 95-1 (See Numbered Note # 9). Systems that utilize liquid oxygen will not be considered. Interested companies are e ncouraged to submit a proposed system concept including system support equipment, any additional existing system information, and/or samples of existing or developing systems not later than 26 October 2005 to: Air Warrior Program Office, ATTN: Mr. Paul Wil kerson, Building 5300, 2nd Floor, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898 Or e-mail (paul.wilkerson@us.army.mil)
