Description
The U.S. Geological Survey, Western Region Earthquakes Hazards, Menlo Park, CA intends to make a sole source award to the Russell Sell, 35537 Farnham Dr., Newark, CA 94560 for technical and field support for the Santa Clara Valley/North Bay Projects and development and maintenance of portable recorders and playback facility. This task is accomplished in part by gathering new data on the mechanisms that contribute to the character of shaking at a particular site whether from source properties or from effects due to the propagation path. We are studying the influence of site geology and basin structure on the seismic hazard in the greater San Jose area by analyzing records of local seismicity obtained on arrays of portable instruments deployed in the Santa Clara Valley. Technical support is needed to maintain both the 13-element array distributed among the urban centers in the North Bay and 40 element array operated from Golden, CO. Contractor's unique capabilities include: 1) extensive experience with seismological instrumentation; 2) extensive experience with the particular equipment we use, digital seismic recorders manufactured by Refraction Technology (Ref-Tek), this instrumentation was developed in collaboration with PASSCAL; 3) knowledgeable user of the PASSCAL programs and tools written to play data back from the Ref-Tek recorder; 4) helped to install the 13 element array and the 40 element array and so knows the locations of all 50 seismometers and their working condition. Government's required period of performance: date of award for 1 year and 1 Option Period. This notice is for informational purposes only. This is not a request for competitive quotes. Interested vendors may identify their interest and capability to respond within 10 days of this announcement.
