Description
LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS A PARTNERSHIP TO CONTINUE ONGOING COLLABORATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND COMMERCIALIZATION OF CANCER PROBE DIAGNOSTIC SOFTWARE Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking an industrial partner with a demonstrated cancer detection probe to participate in a cooperative research and development (CRADA) project under the Department of Energy?s Initiative for Proliferation Prevention (IPP) Program (See http://ipp.nn.doe.gov/) (For a description of LLNL?s IPP programs, see www.llnl.gov/str/Dunlop2.html). Biofil?s role would be to further improve data analysis and diagnostic software developed at Biofil using the prospective industrial partner?s own breast cancer probe. Over the next two years, the industrial partner will link the development of its own working cancer detection probe to the development of Biofil?s data analysis software. The industrial partner and BioFil will use the industrial partner?s probe to develop software algorithms to determine tissue type and state, based on the collected patient data. Initially the work will involve developing improved models for the probe and the individual sensor measurements. The industrial partner will collaborate with BioFil to explore other medical applications (e.g. prostate cancer) and to evaluate new sensor options that could improve accuracy. Interested industrial partners must be able to provide the scientists, engineers and programmers and financial resources required for this project. In order to integrate with the ongoing data analysis development at Biofil, the industrial partner must have a probe capable of measuring the optical and electrical properties of the tissue near the tip of the needle over a broad spectral and frequency range at data rates of up to 100 times per second. The probe must be capable of measuring multiple parameters in real time, simultaneously, including blood concentrations, oxy-deoxyhemoglobin fractions, tissue and cellular structure, and tissue and molecular composition. The measurements must be made both in normal and suspicious tissue. This partnership will be part of the Initiative for Proliferation Prevention (IPP) program. The IPP program requires that the partners become members of the United States Industrial Coalition (USIC).The University of California?s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory can license technology through exclusive or non-exclusive licensing agreements, as determined by the IPP program. All projects are conducted under policies relating to the strict nondisclosure of company proprietary information. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in partnering with LLNL and the Russian Institution, Biofil, to develop and commercialize breast cancer probe diagnostic software should provide a written statement of interest and a description of corporate capabilities relevant to the requirements specified above, within fourteen (14) days from the date this announcement is published, to: Annemarie Meike Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O.
