Description

In January 2005, Motorola, Inc. was issued a delivery order under DOI Contract NBC030009 to complete a radio system Site Survey and Recommend Communications Solution for the New River Gorge NR, Gauley River NRA and Bluestone NSR. This project was implemented in order for the park to successfully migrate from an analog radio system to the mandated Project 25 digital narrowband radio standard. Following the specifications identified in the Recommended Communications Solution, the park made radio equipment purchases from Motorola under the established DOI and GSA contracts for handheld/portable, mobile and desktop radios. A key elemet of this complex radio system conversion project is the system integration component offered by Motorola. New River Gorge NR, Gauley River NRA and Bluestone NSR are located in rural southern West Virginia. There is one full service radio shop within commuting/working distance of the park. The radio shop is an authorized Motorola service and repair facility. This component brings together all the elements of the conversion project under one vendor that can supply the system infrastructure, complete the installation, program the equipment, test system integration, insure compatibility and guaranty through an extended warranty that the entire radio system will function and be free from defect for an extended period of time. To complete this project as described, a number of open market items need to be purchased through Motorola. Purchasing these items will insure design specifications are met, compatibility with contract items purchased through IDIQ and GSA contracts with Motroloa is maintained, and the entire system is warranted to function as designed.
