Description
PROVIDE A TECHNICAL WRITER TO PRODUCE 40 TECHNICAL ARTICLES FOR THE COURSE DEVELOPMENT BRANCH. ARTICLES ARE TO BE UP TO 1-3 PAGES IN LENGTH.STATEMENT OF WORK TECHNICAL WRITER The Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association Bulletin contains safety articles on a variety of mine safety and health subjects, fatal accident abstracts, studies, posters, and other related topics. This information is designed to assist in presentations during on-the-job safety meetings. It also contains information recognizing accomplishments of Holmes Safety Association chapters across the county, and announcements of upcoming events of interest to the mining community. The Holmes Safety Bulletin is published bimonthly (6 times a year), and is usually about 28 pages in length (including covers). Contact Stephen J. Hoyle at hoyle.stephen@dol.gov for a copy. Copies of past issues can also be viewed on the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) website at www.msha.gov. Duties The person will: A. Research and write articles for the Bulletin. B. Coordinate with persons from the industry who contribute materials for inclusion in the Bulletin. C. Coordinate with other Academy staff for graphics and editorial support. D. Take direction from the senior course developer who has overall managerial/coordination responsibility for production of the Bulletin Qualifications The person must have: A. Proven ability as a writer of published materials. B. Ability to communicate well with others orally and in writing. C. Ability to meet deadlines. D. Ability to respond quickly to changes in production, content, and schedules. Performance Criteria The work is intermittent and is not based on hours. Neither workspace nor equipment will be provided by the government. However, the contractor will be required to periodically meet with the senior course developer, editor, or graphics personnel. Bids should be based on a cost per page. Each article should be one to three pages in length, wordprocessed in Word using Time New Roman size 14 font, with margins of 1? on all sides. Articles may be transmitted to the senior course developer by disk, CD, or by e-mail attachment. The acceptable number of pages produced during the year is between 90 and 120.
