- NAICS Code: 541990 The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC) is seeking one individual, at least 18 years of age to provide personal services under a contractual agreement to support NHSRC in the preparation and dissemination of products and communication materials. Applicants must have received their Bachelor's degree in a field of science or technology within the past two years or be a current Master's student (in good standing enrolled in MA/MS degree program, not necessarily carrying a full course load, but pursuing a degree at a recognized educational institution). The successful candidate must be outgoing and self motivated, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to synthesize complex materials into easily understood summaries. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the simultaneous preparation of many types of documents covering diverse subject matter, and to track the production and clearance of these materials. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-paced environment are imperative. The NHSRC also maintains an internet site to inform external stakeholders about NHSRC activities and products, and an intranet site to provide information to employees. The ideal candidate is experience in web development and will share in the responsibility for writing content for both of these web sites. Experience in graphic design is desired but not required for this position. Specific tasks include: interacting with researchers and program directors to obtain knowledge on NHSRC research and projects, developing fact sheets summarizing research and products, maintenance of product tracking database, summarizing technical reports into reader-friendly summary papers, developing progress reports, reviewing technical documents for clarity, developing web content, developing posters, brochures and other communication products, and participating in Web Team meetings and workshops. The student shall possess a Bachelor's degree and may be currently pursuing a Master's degree. This work is expected to begin in December 2005 for a period of twelve (12) months through December 2006, thereafter to include an optional performance period of an additional twelve (12) months through December 2007, at the discretion of the EPA. It is anticipated that the student will work approximately 30-40 hours per week. Extension or continuance beyond 24 months is prohibited. The principal duty station location is the National Homeland Security Research Center in the Andrew W. Breidenbach Environmental Research Facility, Cincinnati, OH. Applicants must be citizens of the United States, agree to a background check and be eligible to acquire a Department of Justice Secret Level Security Clearance to participate in this program. Students who are EPA employees or are the spouse or child of an EPA employee are not eligible to participate. The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with the level of education, as follows: $14.75/per hour for applicants that hold a Bachelor's degree and $18.28 for applicants who hold a Bachelor's degree and have completed a year or more of graduate school study.
