Description
The Tongass National Forest is seeking interested firms to provide an assessment whether a wood heating system(s) is economically feasible for the Thorne Bay Ranger District office, warehouse, bunkhouse, and 25 housing units locating in Thorne Bay, Alaska. The purpose of the study is to assist the Forest Service in how to proceed with a wood-fueled heating system for the Thorne Bay Ranger District Administrative Sites. The selected contractor shall visit the site, meet with local Forest Service representatives, meet with potential fuel providers, and provide an economic analysis and recommendations for the type of system(s) that are feasible. <u>Tasks include: </u> 1. Visit the Thorne Bay Administrative Site and meet with local Forest Service representatives. 2.Assess the suitability of each building for wood heat. 3. Discuss how any suitable systems would integrate with existing systems. 4. Assess the availability of wood supply for heating the buildings. 5. Evaluate areas for wood fuel storage. 6. Evaluate areas to locate the suitable systems. 7. Size and estimate the capital costs of suitable systems. 8. Estimate the operations and maintenance costs of suitable systems. Discuss the level of operations and maintenance required of each system. 9. Estimate the potential economic benefits from installing a wood heating system. 10. Discuss any air quality concerns and local availability for ash disposal. 11. Discuss the feasibility for cogeneration or combined heat and power systems. <u>Deliverables: </u> Provide a written report in Word 2000 or in pdf format addressing the above technical requirements, incorporating all background information, calculations, and assumptions. Provide a sketch with the conceptual layout of the systems and their components, including tie-in to existing facilities.
