- Description
- In response to the question: Would you please define what less-lethal M1012 & M1013 products are. This response is provided in regards to the requirements: 1. Operating - Each cartridge shall provide the following functional, operational and performance capabilities when fired from an unmodified standard issue 12-gauge shotgun (i.e. Mossberg 500, Mossberg 590, Remington Model 870 and Winchester Model 1200) without any additional ancillary devices, sighting systems or modifications. 2. Non-Lethality - When fired into a ballistic clay target per NIJ Standard 0101.03 (no armor or fabric shall be used), the maximum depression made by each of the projectiles at the 10 meter range shall be less than or equal to 42 millimeters. The minimum depression made by any projectile in the target at 10 meters and 20 meters shall be greater than or equal to 5 millimeters. 3. Chamber pressure - The mean chamber pressure, of the 12-gauge shotgun, between the temperature range of 49??C and -32??C shall not exceed 13,000 pounds per square inch (psi), nor shall any individual chamber pressure exceed 15,000 psi. 4. Hit probability - Of the total number of rounds per test group (e.g. Mossberg 500 ambient at 10m), a minimum of 80% of the rounds must have scored at least one impact on the E-silhouette. 5. Velocity - The design muzzle velocity of the cartridge shall be verified during the design verification test and first article verification. This shall serve as a baseline for future test. 6. Non-fragmentation - The projectiles shall not produce explosive and fragmenting kinetic force upon impact. 7. Compatibility - Each cartridge shall be capable of being loaded, fired, or extracted from an unmodified standard issue 12-gauge shotgun (i.e. Mossberg 500, Mossberg 590, and Winchester 1200) without binding or without damage to the shotgun and without round-induced shotgun malfunction.
