Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Electromagnetics Division, Boulder CO proposed to negotiate on a sole source basis, under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) with Virginia Diodes Inc., 979 Second Street SE, Charlottesville, VA 22902. NIST requires a high-power source of terahertz radiation with the following specifications: nominal 850 GHz frequency (any single frequency in range between 840-860 GHz); output power: 100 microWatt minimum; local oscillator source must use only planar diodes and have no mechanical tuners; output into 20dB standard gain diagonal horn; intended use requires it to be mobile, to be low mass and to provide essentially "turn-key" operation and operate from standard 120V, 60Hz wall plug. Delivery shall be within 3 months after receipt of the order. Due to the new technology Virginia Diodes, Inc is the only known supplier of equipment that meets these requirements. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures (under $100,000). This notice is for information purposes only. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether on not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be in the Government?s best interest and must address qualifications pertinent to this requirement. Questions should be submitted in writing to the contracting officer either by fax or e-mail before December 29, 2005. Anticipated award date is December 30, 2005.
