- Description
- Modified to correct response date only. Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC), managing contractor of the Savannah River Site (SRS) for the U.S. Department of Energy, is soliciting expressions of interest from companies wishing to license a method for sealing and staking of tube internals. For non-structural process tubing internals, like porous metal filters used for gas distribution in hydride reactors, detailed mechanical design or special attachment details/methods are required to stake the internal component to the tube, and obtain a uniform seal between the tube inside diameter, and the component outside diameter. Scientists at the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) have developed a method that provides significant reduction in complexity of the internal attachment design by relying on the flash produced during inertial welding to form a seal between the internal component and tube, while also staking the internal in place. Although tube internals may also be welded in place using conventional welding techniques, the heat associated with conventional welding could damage the internal, and shrinkage of weld filler material. Any company interested in licensing this device must respond with a letter of interest (may be submitted by email) no later than 30 days from the publication date of this Notice summarizing the company?s business and technical expertise and motivation for pursuing this opportunity. Qualified companies will be provided with further information on the technology. Questions and expressions of interest may be addressed to the Point of Contact identified in this Notice: John H. Olschon, telephone (803) 725-8125; fax: (803) 725-4988; email: john.olschon@srnl.doe.gov; or address: Westinghouse Savannah River Company, Building 773-41A, Room #239, Aiken, SC 29808. This is not a procurement; it is a request for parties interested in licensing this invention only.
