Description
GRCA Black & Silver Bridge Repair This is not a Request for Proposal (RFP). The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to solicit industry feedback regarding the development of the acquisition strategy and request for proposal to repair the black and silver bridges at Grand Canyon National Park. The purpose of the acquisition is to repair the two bridges located at the bottom of the Grand Canyon near Phantom Ranch. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Inspection reports for both bridges found several items that needed repairs. Some of the items have been repaired. Other items such as the painting of the abutments and replacing the sway cables on the Black Bridge, and the installation of grate clips, on the Silver Bridge, have not yet been completed. A. Black Bridge: I. Replace the existing guys for the wind sway cables with new galvanized steel guys and stainless steel hardware (including new turnbuckles). New guys and hardware shall provide a system equal to, or exceeding, the strength and resistance to fatigue of the existing cables. Technical climbing along the sway cables, over the river, will be required. II. Paint existing epoxy coated concrete abutments to match the surrounding rock. High angle climbing and rope work will be required the reach abutments. B. Silver Bridge: I. Replace several missing metal clips and bolts for the floor grates and stringers. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION: Whenever practical, materials and equipment shall be brought into the site by means other than helicopter. Personnel shall walk in and out of the site when practical. When necessary, materials, equipment, and approved personnel may be airlifted to the project site by NPS helicopter, at NPS expense. The number of flights will be agreed upon by both the contractor and NPS before any flights take place. The equipment necessary to repair the bridges (i.e. cables, paint, etc.) will be government furnished. ACQUISITION OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this RFI is to gain market research in order to determine the level of interest from potential contractors, in order to formulate the proper acquisition strategy. TERM: Complete all work before March 31, 2006. SUBMITTAL: If interested, please submit a summary business plan, which addresses the proposed projected identified above. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS: Responses to this RFI should be in a Word.doc, not to exceed ten (10) pages. Responses should be submitted, via e-mail, to Katie Hoover at the following address katie_hoover@nps.gov or via fax at 303-969-2992. Responses must be submitted no later than January 9, 2006.
