Description
Rental of one low-wing multi-engine aircraft to support the U.S. Geological Survey, Alaska Volcano Observatory, in an aerial survey of St. Augustine Volcano on Augustine Island located in Cook Inlet, 60nm WSW of Homer, Alaska. Vendor will be approved and flights flown under Part 135 FAA approval. The aircraft will be approved for flight into known icing conditions, equipped with an autopilot and have seats for a minimum of four passengers. Surveys will be flown to ascertain gas being emitted from St. Augustine during this current activity. Flights are ongoing at this time. The survey will be flown from above 500AGL to an altitude of 4,500 feet MSL around Augustine Island. Flights will be intermittent in nature with a 2-hour notice to install COSPEC and other equipment. The Co-pilots seat will be used as a base for the mount to support the air sampling instruments. The right side vent window will need to be removed for the installing of an outside probe. The seat will have a platform to bring the instrument box above the seat back and make it visible to the rear front seats. A plate for the side vent window with a rubber seal and attached to the vent opening will be installed. All changes will have FAA and FAR 43 approval. A 12-volt power source will be available for use with the instrument mounted to the seat. The recording instrument shall be tied down to the cargo points on the floor using ratcheting tie down straps. There will be a means to set the level of the window outlet and instrument box without putting a load on the side window or instruments. Vendor must obtain an Aircraft Rental Agreement (ARA) with Alaska Regional Office of Aviation Management.
