Description
Innovative Payload Development for Non-Lethal 0.68 caliber, pneumatically launched projectiles Background: The Armament Research Development and Engineering Center at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ is seeking sources for the research & development of highly innovative payloads and/or projectiles for non-lethal applications for use in 0.68 (in) caliber pneumatic launchers. Performance Parameters of interest include: Total Projectile (with payload) Mass: approximately 8-9 grams Muzzle Velocity: approximately 300 feet/sec. Interior Ballistics: The projectile & its payload should be sufficiently hardened to withstand the acceleration forces from being launched from a compressed air pneumatic source. Projectile bodies should be rifled for spin- stabilization from a smooth .68 caliber barrel and compatible with current commercial-off-the-shelf feed systems. Exterior Ballistics: The new design???s effective range should be nominally equal to or better than to existing products, without any increase to injury potential at point blank ranges. Terminal Effects: The projectile/payload should be capable of delivering a robust target effect from ranges 5 meters to 100+ meters without causing a high risk of injury. Other: Features and/or design elements that the offeror recognizes as factors that may reduce the overall development risk/cost/time of developing a militarized product are encouraged to be included in any response. Innovation: Contractors are strongly encouraged to be innovative in their solutions, both for projectile design, and also for the projectile???s payload. Potential non-lethal applications vary, and payloads can include but are not limited to: marking, tagging, blunt trauma, light/sound, electrical stun, and/or combined effects. These innovative concepts may also include non-lethal anti-material and/or non-lethal anti-personnel solutions. Interested offerors may offer a projectile, a payload and/or both. Interested offerors should submit information as to their qualifications and plans for executing this program within 30 days to: Commander, US Army TACOM- ARDEC, Acquisition Center, AMSTA-AQ-APB, BLDG. 9, ATTN: Ms. Morgan Ross, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the Government. NO TELEPHONE INQUIRIES OF EMAILS WILL BE ACCEPTED. This is sources sought notice only. It is for planning purposes only and should not be construed as a Request for Proposal.
