Description
A vessel is needed to transport scientists to Steller sea lion rookeries and haul-out sites, disembark the scientists and await their return from the drop-off site while maintaining VHF radio communication with the scientists the entire time. The primary objectives of the research are sighting braded and tagged sea lions and collecting biological samples at as many as 50 rookeries and haul-out sites. The vessel and crew requirements for the charter are: (1) minimum overall length of 85 feet (26 m), maximum draft of 14 feet (4.3 m), and height to bridge deck of 14 feet (4.3 m) from waterline; (2) minimum cruising speed 9 knots (17 km/hr); and (3) minimum vessel operating endurance of 14 days (based on average running time of 12 hours per day at 9 knots or 17 km/hr). Accommodations for a scientific part of up to 4 biologists will be required. Period of Performance: The term for the base year charter will be 14 days, plus or minus 6 days, starting on or about May 12, 2006, at Kodiak, Alaska and ending on or about May 26, 2006, at Kodiak, Alaska, with options for two additional charters in May 2007 and May 2008 for the same duration. A Request for Proposal (RFP) solicitation will be available on or about March 10, 2006, through this website. No paper copies of the solicitation will be issued. No telephone, facsimile, or written requests will be accepted. It is incumbent upon interested parties to register at the solicitation's site for notification and to review the site frequently for any updates/amendments to any and all documents.
