Description

In response to additional questions, we offer the following: (1) Q: What is the pipe being used for? A: Compression members - Cross chamber struts to dewater a lock chamber. Q: Is welding the pipe acceptable? A: Yes, the pipe sections should be joined with a full penetration weld as permitted by AWS. The weld should be performed by certified welders and approved by a testing agency. The pipe should be delivered in one piece in the specified length ready for use without splicing by the Gover nment. Q: Does the pipe have to be prime coated first and then final coated? A: No, the pipe is to receive a commercial blast followed by paint in accordance with the specifications. Q: What color paint is required for the final coat? A: Not specif ied. Light color is desired. Q: Is DEVOE Bar Rust 235 acceptable rather than DEVOE Bar Rust 236? A: Yes, DEVOE Bar Rust 235 is acceptable. The specification is amended as follows in accordance with the responses submitted by the Government in Amendments 0001 and 0002: The specifications provided in PART 2 PRODUCTS, 2.1 are deleted in its entirety and the following inserted: Steel pipe confo rming to ASTM A252, Grade 3 (Fy=45 ksi), or ASTM A572, Grade 50 (Fy=50 ksi),. Nominal diameter shall be 36 in. with a minimum wall thickness of 1 in. The pipes may be welded. If welded, the weld procedure shall be in accordance with AWS, performed by ce rtified welders and approved by a testing agency. The pipe should be delivered in one piece in the specified length ready for use without splicing by the Government. Paint preparation and coating shall be as follows (coatings not required inside pipe sec tions): Commercial blast followed by 10 mils DEVOE Bar Rust 235, 236, or equal. Paint coatings shall not be applied within 12 in. of each end of the pipe sections. The due date for responses is extended until 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2006.
