- The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has a requirement to procure the professional services of a Nurse Practitioner (NP) that will provide medical support for pediatric obesity studies and assist with research on pediatric obesity in the Unit on Growth and Obesity (UGO), Developmental Endocrinology Branch of NICHD. The requirements are as follows: 1) Requires full professional knowledge of the principles and concepts of pediatric obesity research including a basic understanding of molecular and biochemical genetics; 2) Requires full professional knowledge of the principles, theory and practice of nursing. Familiarity with Pediatric nursing, examination, and care. Human physiology and anatomy, child development use of medications in children including adjustments for body weight or body surface area. Technical procedures for intravenous catheter placement, phlebotomy, and selection of tubes for different blood tests. Technical procedures for performing hyperglycemic clamp and frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance test studies. Technical procedures for Good Clinical Practice, including record keeping, obtaining consent and assent, and review of laboratory values; 3) Has knowledge to interpret patient research data, consultant reports, and clinical care records. Can interpret clinical data related to pediatric disorders; 4) Possesses knowledge and ability to obtain and record complete health histories and physical assessments and to integrate and communicate data from these and other sources. Use of the NIH computerized medical ordering system and of computerized data bases for obtaining, and entering, data relevant to the scope of work in the Unit; 5) Has ability to teach and develop educational programs for patients, families, and nursing staff; 6) Both verbal and writing skills are essential to this position as the incumbent is required to communicate effectively with patients, hospital staff and physicians; 7) Must have ability to acquire computer skills and apply them to maintenance of database and data analysis; 8) Knowledge of malformations and clinical problems found in pediatric obesity syndromes; 9) Knowledge of the clinical care of pediatric obesity patients; 10 Working knowledge of the NIH Clinical Center computer system; 11) Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification. A Statement of Work will be attached to the Request for Quote (RFQ) package. This is set aside for small businesses. It is anticipated that RFQ NIH-NIDDK-06-746 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication of this notice. Receipt of quotations will be due ten (10) days after the release of the RFQ. The anticipated award date is March 31, 2006.
