- Description
- The Defense Information Systems Agency intends to issue a solicitation to Harris RF Communications Division, 1680 University Avenue Rochester, NY 14610 for AN/PRC-117F software improvements. The AN/PRC-117 software will implement, integrate, test and certify the latest approved Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Satellite Communications (SATCOM) military standards (i.e. MIL-STD-188-181C, -182B and ?183B, also known as the Integrated Waveform (IW). In addition the contractor will provide modification to the technical manuals, training materials, training classes, and technical assistance to upload the software to fielded terminals. The UHF SATCOM system provides the US Department of Defense (DoD) and other US Government departments and agencies critical beyond line-of-sight communications for tactical and special forces operations. UHF SATCOM is the only commercial or military system that can operate under all weather conditions and cover. However, the currently implemented UHF SATCOM Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) waveforms (MIL-STD-188-181B, -182A and ?183A) is no longer technologically current, efficient and effective to fulfill the UHF SATCOM user operational requirements. DISA revised the UHF SATCOM standards to IW, which maintains consistency with user needs and evolving technology. To achieve the IW benefits for present operations, DoD has selected a number of user terminal types that must be upgraded to IW. The AN/PRC-117F is one of these types of terminals. The intended contract will be for IW Phase-I, which will implement MIL-STD-188-181C and MIL-STD-188?183B and will provide maximum benefit to the warfighter in a shortened development time. This phase is estimated at 15 staff years of work. This phase will support single access (one NET per channel) and multiple access (multiple networks per channel using Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)). The intended contract will also include an option for Phase II, which will implement MIL-STD-188-182B for demand assignment capability and is estimated at 12 staff years of work. Award is expected during fourth quarter FY06. See Note 22.
