Description
Thinning: This project requires stand density management through the process of cutting down trees by hand to meet the spacing requirements in the Stices Interface, Sumpter Interface, and McCully sale areas, on approximately 650 acres. These units are being treated in preparation for grapple piling (which is not included in this contract) and hand piling (some of which are included in this contract). Use of motorized equipment other than hand-held equipment such as power saws and brush cutters will not be permitted off roads in the project area without approval of the Contracting Officer. Slash shall be treated so that any remaining slash meets the requirements as described in the specific tasks section and Detailed Unit Information Sheet(s). Hand Piling: To reduce the threat of catastrophic wild fire, this project will reduce fuel loading within selected pre-commercially thinned areas in the Stices Interface, Sumpter Interface, & McCully sale areas. Fuel shall be hand piled to reduce fuel loadings on approximately 562 acres. A 4-foot by 4-foot piece of paper shall cover a portion of the pile to facilitate burning. Government shall provide all paper required for piles. Material to be treated is composed of timber litter, selected standing dead trees 9 inches dbh or less, and pre-commercial thinning debris from this thinning project. This material is identified as fuel model 12 as defined by the USDA Forest Service General Technical Report, PNW-52 1976. Fuel amounts vary but are estimated at 0 to 3 feet in depth for a total of 5-30 tons/acre. It may be necessary to transport slash up to a 50 feet radius of pile(s) to meet minimum pile size requirements. NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO FEDBIZOPPS ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (13-MAR-2006); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE.
