Description
THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 3 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE (SEM). Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment No. 3 is to provide answers to questions submitted in response to NNC06149224Q for the SEM. The questions and answers are as follows: 1. Does your end user wish to do light elements down to B or only to Na? Answer: Down to and including B. 2. Is your end user familiar with the new solid state SDD detectors that do not require liquid nitrogen, have the same resolution as SiLi, are capable of outputs of over 250,000 counts per second and since they only need to go to -15C can be turned on when needed and off when not? Would the end user consider such a detector? Answer: SDD technology is still too new to determine long-term reliability. End user prefers to use a liquid nitrogen cooled detector. 3. Is X-ray excitation critical to your application? Answer: No. NASA end user mistakenly interchanged the acronyms EDS and XRF in the original specs. All that is required is energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) utilizing x-rays that are emitted from the sample during bombardment by the electron beam to characterize the elemental composition of the analyzed volume. An optional x-ray tube is not desired. The due date for receipt of offers is hereby extended to March 24, 2006 at 4:30 PM. Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on March 14, 2006.
