Description
TECHNOLOGY/BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY BIOAEROSOL MASS SPECTROMETER SYSTEM Opportunity: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is offering the opportunity to license the technology to build a BioAerosol Mass Spectrometer (BAMS) system. Background: Researchers at LLNL have developed a BAMS system which permits the real-time analysis of the chemical composition of single cells or other aerosol particles. Description: The BAMS system is a collection of hardware and software which analyses aerosols. The system consists of several processing stages that work in series as a single flow through, real-time analyzer. Aerosol is first drawn into the system and the particles are focused into a particle beam while the gas is pumped away. Each individual particle is then analyzed for aerodynamic size, laser induced fluorescence, particle charge, and finally by laser induced desorption/ionization mass spectrometry to determine the chemical composition of the particles. Advantages: The system can sample particles directly from air or from a suspension. It can identify bioaerosol particles of interest among the numerous background particles sampled and identify the nature of these bioaerosol particles of interest. Potential Applications: Applications include biological defense, fundamental cell biology, and biomedical research. Development Status: LLNL has a portfolio of intellectual property covering the BAMS system. LLNL is seeking industry partners with a demonstrated ability to bring such inventions to the market. Moving critical technology beyond the Laboratory to the commercial world helps our licensees gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. All licensing activities are conducted under policies relating to the strict nondisclosure of company proprietary information. Please visit the IPAC website at: http://www.llnl.gov/IPandC/workwithus/partneringprocess.php for more information on working with LLNL and the industrial partnering and technology transfer process. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's BioAerosol Mass Spectrometer (BAMS) system should provide a written statement of interest, which includes the following: 1. Company Name and address. 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing this technology. Written responses should be submitted by completing our online Company Contact form.
