Description
This synopsis is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) page located at http://www.eps.gov and the Navy Electronic Commerce on Line (NECO) site located at http://www.neco.navy.mil. While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopsis and solicitations to the Internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. Please feel free to use either site to access information posted by the Naval Sea Systems Command. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) is seeking sources that can deliver a scientific visualization system for performing advanced scientific visualization and computation. This system will be tailored to meet the large memory requirements of activities such as visualization of large computational fluid dynamics, finite element and hydrocode data sets as well as generation of large computational meshes for complex geometries. The capability to run parallel numerical computations in both shared memory mode on a single node and in distributed memory mode over several nodes is also desired. Visualization software to be run on the system includes Fieldview and Tecplot. Mesh generation software includes ANSYS ICEM and Sandia CUBIT. Numerical software such as the CTH and ALE3D hydrocodes and the LSDYNA finite element software will also be run on this system. Graphical output from the system will be viewed through a directly attached high-resolution display as well as a high-speed network to allow viewing of graphics at workstations located away from the cluster. Candidate systems must meet all of the following technical requirements 1) 64-bit CPU architecture with twin, dual-core CPU nodes 2) Low-latency network 3) Rack-mount physical build. 4) Operation under a non-proprietary Linux operating system with a kernel greater than or equal to 2.6. The following detailed specifications apply. 1) 2 dual core Opteron model 280 2.4 Ghz per computer chassis 2) 12 GB pc3200 400 MHz dual channel DDR SDRAM per computer chassi s for the compute nodes and SCSI hard drives 3) One master node with 12 GB pc3200 400 MHz dual channel DDR SDRAM, PCIe nVidia Quadro Graphics processor or equivalent, high resolution LCD display, keyboard and mouse. 4) One 1U rack mounted slide-out 15? LCD, Keyboard, Trackpad. 5) Low-latency network (Myrinet or Infiniband) 6) Gigabit ethernet network 7) 42U population space premium racks without side panels or front door. (Vendor will specify number of racks required.) 8) Total power distribution must have at least 10% excess power distribution capacity when machine is running at 100% utilization 9) Installed software will consist of non-proprietary (without vendor supplied kernel patches) Linux operating system, Sun Grid Engine, centralized node-monitoring software and Portland Group 64-bit compiler. 10) Directly attached 4 TB RAID mass storage minimum Standard warranty on all hardware 11) Power (APC Basic Rack PDU Part Number: AP9563, Input: 120V, Input Connections: NEMA 5-20P, Cord Length: 12 feet ( 3.66 cm), Output: 120V, Output Connections: NEMA 5-20R, Vendor will specify amperage at 100% processor utilization, total PDU amperage capacity and thermal dissipation, The vendor must provide thermal data showing that CPU temperatures meet, or preferably, exceed the CPU manufacturer?s temperature specifications when operating at full load for extended periods of time. NO SOLICITATION EXISTS AT THIS TIME. This request is for information only and is intended to identify items currently available or companies capable of providing the required system. When responding, please reference sources sought announcement number N00178-06-Q-1909, provide the company name, point of contact, telephone and facsimile numbers, internet address, business size, and specific information regarding your capabilities to provide the scientific visualization system described herein. Interested parties should reply by submitting a White Paper no later than 27 March 2006 to Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, 17320 Dahlgren Road, Building 183, First Floor, Room 102, Dahlgren VA 22448-5100 CODE XDS117, with faxed copies acceptable. Fax number (540) 653-7088, Attention Code XDS117. E-mail address is DLGR_NSWC_XDS11@navy.mil, (540) 653-7478.
